Windstorm is said to be the most damaging natural hazard covered by property insurers, with substantial losses reported every year in the UK. The ABI reported that the storms of October 1987 and January/February 1990 alone resulted in insured losses of £1.4 billion and £2.1 billion respectively.
With such uncertainty of climatic change, Marley Roofing has produced a detailed brochure providing all the necessary technical detail on its comprehensive range of dry fix products for the ridge, hip, valley and verge.
Specified as the most effective protection for roofs, dry - or mortarless – pitched roofing is becoming the preferred method for weatherproofing details, offering a range of benefits over wet mortared roofs, which have proved to be more vulnerable and unreliable in high wind loads.
Using the latest computer design technology to demonstrate product details through the use of sectional drawings and cutaway isometric illustrations, Marley’s brochure details the many dry fix roof systems it has developed to provide high performance, easy-to-fix, maintenance free alternatives to traditional mortar bedding.
Useful fixing notes supplied along with key product data, components required for each system and dimensions of key components, provide specifiers and roofing contractors with all the relevant information and advice required to accurately select the perfect dry fix system.
When correctly installed, Marley’s dry fix roof systems are designed to satisfy the requirements of BS 5534 ‘Code of practice for slating and tiling (including shingles)’, with respect to the mechanical fixing of roof fittings to resist wind uplift and the provision of a weathertight roof. Furthermore, Marley’s dry fix roof systems allow for low maintenance roofing applications, complying with PPG3 guidelines.
John Dodd, General Technical Manager for Marley Roofing, commented: “The storms of the past few decades have emphasised the country’s increased need to treat the elements with due respect when specifying roofing products and systems.
“The phenomenon of increased climatic extremes is a warning to all those within the roofing construction chain, to improve the overall performance of roofing systems and to pre-empt and reduce future incidences of failure. Marley’s new dry fix brochure reinforces our commitment to these issues by providing a valuable reference document.”
