India and China to push for the use of plastics in construction

At present India’s per capita use of polymers is only 3.6kg, a government department is looking to push this to 12kg by 2010, partially through an increase in the use of plastics in construction. Looking to save wood and metal resources, an expert committee on plastics is being formed to promote greater use of plastics in construction areas such as door frames and window panels.

China uses 16.4kg of plastic per capita compared with the world average of 24.6 kg. The Chinese government is attempting to increase this by making it mandatory to use a certain percentage of plastic in new building construction.
