Today, BuildIQ, the leading online educator in Best Practices in Homebuilding, introduced a series of web-based courses to address the construction quality issue that affects one third of all new homes-water intrusion. BuildIQ collaborated with its sister company IBACOS, a construction quality and risk management services group, to incorporate homebuilding Best Practices that have been proven in the field into each course in the Water Management Suite:
Fundamentals, Roofs, Walls, Windows and Doors, Basements and Crawlspaces and Slab-on-Grade Foundations.
The Suite is available in seven regional versions. Other region-specific courses will be added to BuildIQ University's online training curriculum in early 2008.
"In this market, builders who focus on quality can significantly boost their bottom line," says Michael Dickens, BuildIQ's CEO. "Putting the right information about top quality issues in the right hands at the right time can make all the difference and save homebuilders millions in warranty claims."
Water intrusion is one of the most common and costly quality issues IBACOS encounters, but it can be prevented by using the right building materials and construction practices. "We wanted to leverage our experience in the field to help builders address water management more proactively - before issues occur," says Brad Oberg, IBACOS' CTO and one of the nation's foremost building scientists. IBACOS' Builder Services team worked with BuildIQ to provide the right balance of fundamental information, which is important no matter where you're building, and regional Best Practices and installation details that can be leveraged on the jobsite. "The Water Management Suite BuildIQ University offers is a great primer for team members across multiple departments and skill levels within a production builder's organization," Oberg adds.
