Work to improve drainage on the A46 at Winthorpe, near Newark, Nottinghamshire, starts on Monday, 20 August for five weeks.
Highways Agency route performance manager Jim Allcock said:
"To ensure that the carriageway drainage works effectively we need to repair and wash through existing drains, replace some culverts with ditches, lay some larger pipes and install new gullies on two short sections between the A1133 roundabout and A1/A17/A46 junction."
To minimise disruption work will take place overnight, from 8pm to 6am. For the first 10 days work will take place on the southbound carriageway and will switch to the northbound from Thursday, 30 August to Saturday, 1 September. There will then be lane restrictions on both carriageways until the scheme ends at 6am on Friday, 21 September.
A 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways throughout the works with the exception of two occasions overnight when, for the safety of road users and roadworkers, traffic will be led through the works by a clearly marked convoy vehicle travelling at 10mph.
The first of these restrictions will be on the southbound carriageway between 28 and 30 August and will then switch to the northbound carriageway between 30 August and 1 September.
Access to the Mint Leaf restaurant and Jet and Total garages will be maintained at all times.
