Demonstrating its commitment to the environment, the Housing Corporation has been awarded the internationally recognised ISO14001 certificate.
The prestigious award acknowledges the Housing Corporation's ability to implement green initiatives, processes and standards. It also recognises how the Corporation has managed an established environmental management programme, raising staff awareness on green and environmentally friendly issues.
The certificate followed an assessment by the British Standard Board and is the culmination of a year long programme of initiatives, improvements and internal auditing across the Corporation's offices.
Initiatives included:
-
Forming a Housing Corporation Environmental Policy and the creation of a Super Green Team to lead on green policies;
-
Replacing all bins with central recycling stations;
-
Ensuring all printers produce double-sided printing;
-
Eco-friendly procurement;
-
Developing an environmentally friendly travel policy.
Housing Corporation Acting Chief Executive, Steve Douglas, said, "This prestigious award confirms our organisational commitment to raising environmental awareness This does not just relate to the many thousands of homes we fund but also in our day to day office activities. I would like to thank and congratulate all Corporation staff, whose enthusiasm in helping achieve this award was commented on by the assessors.
"However, it does not stop here. The Corporation will be assessed every year and in order to keep this award, we have to show our continued commitment to improving the Corporation's environmental awareness and contributing to a healthier environment."
This success follows the Housing Corporation's award of the British Standard BS8555 green certificate earlier this year.
