Top ten UK housebuilder Miller Homes has picked up a major industry award for its commitment to improving health and safety on all of its developments.
The firm took the title of Best Housebuilders' Safety Programme at the Health and Safety Awards organised by "Building" - a leading trade magazine covering the entire construction industry.
The win follows hot on the heels of Miller Homes being crowned Housebuilder of the Year for the first time in its 70 year history - and comes after Miller Homes chief executive Tim Hough was voted the nation's most influential developer by "Housebuilder", another leading industry publication.
According to the Health & Safety Awards' panel of experts, Miller Homes is a "flagship example of active involvement in health and safety improvement". They were particularly impressed with the firm's hands-on approach and thorough site inspection system which encourages those within the company to take greater responsibility for health and safety.
Tim Hough said: "Making sure all of our sites are safe and secure is our number one priority, so it's great to have our efforts recognised by our peers at such a high level.
"As a result of the programme for which we won the award, both site inspection scores and accident frequency rates have shown significant improvements over the last two years - which is obviously fantastic news."
