Yvette Cooper, Minister for Housing and Planning, today announced that the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation lifespan has been extended.
The Corporation was established in 2003 to drive forward regeneration, improve infrastructure, investment and sustainable growth within Thurrock. As part of the Thames Gateway, Thurrock aims to deliver 18,500 new homes and 26,000 new jobs.
Yvette Cooper said:
“I am delighted to announce that the lifespan of the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation has been extended to 2014. This extension will allow the Corporation to continue its good work in regenerating Thurrock and improving the aspirations and opportunities for those living and working in the area.”
William McKee, Chair of Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation, commented:
“The decision to extend the lifespan of the Development Corporation is most welcome. It recognises that the delivery of the Corporation’s vision for sustainable regeneration and growth in Thurrock requires a timetable that allows the Corporation to properly address the complex series of urban regeneration issues that exists in Thurrock.
“The extension will help the Corporation to meet its ambitious and transformational objectives to improve the quality of life for the people who live and work in Thurrock.”
