A range of pipe and fittings are being installed in Manchester’s prestigious City Lofts Salford Quays development. The City Lofts Group project, designed by architects Conran & Partners, comprises two linked residential buildings standing at 19 and 9 stories high and is one of the newest additions to the thriving waterfront location.
Wefatherm pipework in sizes ranging from 32mm to 160mm was chosen by contractors, Strong Building Services, for the boosted cold water distribution system, which provides potable water to all the apartments in both buildings within the development.
The plastic pipework system runs from a cold water supply tank located in the basement of the tallest building and was specified for a number of benefits including fast and efficient installation, through its superior socket fusion jointing method, which results in reduced labour time and costs.
Due to the specific requirements of City Lofts Group, the Wefatherm modules were pre-fabricated off site, as it is easier to construct repetitive pipework configurations under factory conditions.
Project Manager for Strong Building Services, Bob Knight, was responsible for recommending the Wefatherm system, he comments, “We originally considered using a copper pipework system, but because of the speed and ease of installation we decided on sourcing a plastic alternative and eventually chose Wefatherm as I felt confident in the fact that Durapipe UK was one of the leading plastic pipework manufacturers.”
“The service provided by Durapipe UK and its staff was first rate, and I am very pleased with the results of using the Wefatherm system.”
Wefatherm features excellent performance properties, including low heat conducting capacities, thermal aging resistance and high resistance to corrosion and deposit build up, which all contribute to increasing the product lifespan, providing significant life cycle cost savings.
City Lofts Salford Quays, which is already completely sold out, is due for completion mid 2007.
