Expanding upon its offerings of task specific, contractor quality fasteners, FastenMaster, a division of OMG, Inc., has launched the new IQ Hidden Deck Fastener System. The IQ System allows deck builders to quickly and easily install boards of various materials, thicknesses and widths from above the deck, ensuring that no fasteners will be visible on the completed surface.
IQ employs a user-friendly Clip&Flip™ system that requires only a drill to install: builders stand on top of the deck, align the clips with the joists and attach to the bottom of the board with a screw, then flip the board, slide into place and secure with the joist screw. Aligning the clips is possible without making a precise measurement, as the IQ clips allow for 3/8" in either direction. This comprehensive system can be used for angled decks, to install both the first and last board and to connect seam joints. The IQ clips are made of a UV stable engineered resin that has been mechanically, thermally and chemically tested for long-term durability.
"The IQ System helps builders create finished decks that showcase the natural beauty of the wood, without interrupting the surface with visible fasteners," says Tim Gillis, Marketing Manager for FastenMaster. "IQ is versatile enough to use with a variety of boards and can be installed at multiple angles for different styles. The result is an upscale blind-fastened deck that both professionals and do-it-yourselfers can achieve with a simple Clip&Flip procedure."
The FastenMaster IQ System is available in 300 square foot, 100 square foot and 25 square foot packages. Each comes complete with ACQ approved screws, two driver bits and the IQ clips, as well as an instructional DVD and written instructions. IQ is available at FastenMaster lumberyards nationwide.
