We are delighted to report that we have been recognised for our achievements in sustainable working practices by being accepted onto the Black Country Business Environment Association Charter, which assesses company’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Companies wishing to sign up to the charter are visited and assessed by the BCBEA and are awarded different levels – bronze, silver, gold and platinum – according to the stage that they are at in terms of their environmental awareness and performance.
Awarded the highest accreditation, the platinum level, we were tasked with meeting a variety of different criteria in order to receive the award. During the assessment we demonstrated that we enforce a strict environmental policy, have environmental performance indicators in place that reflect key environmental issues, have implemented an environmental management system and achieved certification to ISO 14001.
In addition to the outstanding work it is already carrying out, Durapipe has also made a commitment to achieve the following targets both in the short and long term:
- Eliminate recyclable wastes going to landfill by the end of 2012
- Measure, manage and reduce electricity consumption
- Maintain ISO 14001 certification
- Re-train all staff in environmental awareness during 2007
Commenting on this latest achievement, Andy Harrington, our Quality Manager said: “We are delighted to have been recognised for the work that we are doing. Durapipe UK has always taken its responsibilities towards the environment seriously and we are continuously looking at ways in which we can improve our environmental practices.”
