Aerosol duct sealing

To prevent energy loss in buildings featuring ductwork for cooling and heating, the ducts need to be sealed. Until now this has been a tedious and time-consuming job requiring the hand painting of mastic. A new development is the ability to inject sealant into the airstream of a building.

Called the "mobile aerosol-sealant injection system", or MASIS, the system was initially developed for use in residential and small commercial duct systems but it has now been enhanced and works in large commercial and industrial ducts. It works by injecting an aerosol through the ducts where it gradually builds up and creates a flexible seal at any holes, tears and other leaks.

The system has been licensed by Carrier Aeroseal for use in commercial buildings.
