CH2M HILL announced today that it has been selected by Gainesville Regional Utilities to partner with Babcock Power Environmental Inc. in a teaming agreement for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of a new emissions control system for the Deerhaven Unit 2 Power Plant in Gainesville, Florida. The new emissions control system includes a selective catalytic reduction system, dry flue gas desulfurization and a fabric filter. Total project cost under contract is nearly $119 million.
"We are pleased to embark on this new project which will provide the residents of Gainesville with significant reductions in the emissions of SO2, NOx, mercury and particulates," said Don Zabilansky, president of CH2M HILL's power business. CH2M HILL has worked for both Gainesville Regional Utilities and the City of Gainesville for nearly 40 years.
The new emissions control system will meet the new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency goals for SO2, NOx and mercury reductions beginning in 2009. Babcock Power's Turbosorp(R) circulating dry scrubber, their world class selective catalytic converter technology and Hamon fabric filter technology will be used to meet the new emissions guidelines.
The project is underway with engineering and equipment procurement. Construction start-up is planned for July 2007. The emissions upgrade is scheduled to be fully operational in May 2009.
CH2M HILL has vast experience in providing EPC services throughout Florida. Our safety record has documented four 1-million work-hour projects in the past three years with zero time lost due to accidents.
The CH2M HILL Gainesville office has teamed with GRU on numerous water and wastewater projects and will provide local support throughout the course of this project. The integrated EPC approach simplifies management, reduces risk to the owner, thus maximizing the value of the capital investment.
