Outdoor living is continuing to trend up: According to the American Institute of Architects, in 2006 almost two-thirds of architects saw an increase in outdoor living spaces, a dramatic surge from just a year earlier. Architects reported significant increases in patios and outdoor kitchens and also in upscale landscaping and outdoor features such as courtyards and formal lot boundaries. With the introduction of new Flat Capstones along with a new color addition, Owens Corning (NYSE: OC) Cultured Stone(R) is continuing to meet homebuilders' ability to make the most of this hot trend.
The Flat Capstone collection offers builders additional flexibility for a variety of outdoor living design uses. They can be used for outdoor seating areas, as caps for planters or walls that require a flat surface to place items upon or anywhere a flat capstone is called for, while also providing correct run off protection. The stones also may be cut to create custom-sized trim or sills, and the 12" wide Flat Capstones can be used as hearthstone extensions for gas fireplaces. The new Mocha color was developed to coordinate with 11 Cultured Stone(R) veneer colors and three Cultured Brick(R) veneer colors. New Flat Capstone Collection Features:
- Available in Taupe, Gray, Champagne and new Mocha colors to complement
the entire line of Owens Corning Cultured Stone(R) veneer colors.
- Flat Capstones feature flagstone texture with rock-face edges.
- 20" long by 2" thick caps come in widths of 12", 10" and 6", optimal
sizes for topping 4", 6" or 8" framed, poured in place or concrete
masonry unit walls faced with Cultured Stone(R) veneer or other
finishes.
- 20" lengths make Flat Capstones a manageable weight and size for ease
of handling and installation.
"Interest in outdoor living spaces has never been higher and shows no sign of slowing," said Bob Heath, market development leader, Owens Corning Cultured Stone(R). "Our customers have been asking for more products to fulfill multiple outdoor living applications."
