Report On Sustainable Housing For the 21st Century

The Sustainable Housing Forum (SHF) has released a new report, “Building Sustainably: How to plan and construct new housing for the 21st Century”, that states that building regulations and planning in the UK must be reformed to result in mainstream sustainable housing.

Issues raised include how building regulations and the planning system don’t address issues like the environmental impacts of building materials, energy and water consumption and public transport access.

They are looking to government to legislate for houses to be built with zero carbon dioxide emissions and to show radical reductions in water use through innovative reuse and efficiency technologies. New housing is to be designed to be quality living areas as well as being affordable for both people and the environment.
