The company, which moved its headquarters to Lincoln this year, is one of the country’s leading manufacturers of high performance insulation for residential and commercial properties.
Founded by father and son, Craig and William Bown in 2006, SuperFOIL employs 18 people and produces around 1.5 million square metres of insulation every year. Last year, the company posted record profits after sales grew by 25%.
The company is a finalist in the Manufacturing Excellence category of the Family Business Awards - the UK’s only independent, not-for-profit annual Awards showcase for family businesses in the Midlands.
Now in their 10th year, more than 130 companies entered the awards, with just five companies shortlisted for the Manufacturing Excellence category.
Representatives of SuperFOIL will now meet with the Awards’ independent judging panel before the winners are announced on Thursday 7th November.
SuperFOIL is also automatically entered into the People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Streets Chartered Accountants. The Winner and Highly Commended of this special award are decided solely by the number of votes from the public, and votes can be made online at www.familybusinessawards.co.uk from the 1st to 31st October 2019.
Commenting on being named a finalist in the Awards, Managing Director of SuperFOIL Insulation, William Bown said:
“Being chosen as one of the five best family-run manufacturing businesses is a great honour which comes after the most successful year in the history of our business.
“Family businesses play an important role in the British economy, accounting for more than 88 per cent of private companies, but they come with a unique set of challenges. There’s a fantastic atmosphere and everyone looks after each other, but when you’re running the family business, everything feels very personal because you’re so invested into the company.
“My dad started SuperFOIL when he was building a house and wanted to install high-performance insulation which was also cost-effective but he found that there was nothing on the market that suited. As a solution, we developed our own multi-foil insulation and the company started from there.
“Today, we produce around 1.5 million square metres of insulation every year, including the only non-combustible multi-foil insulation on the market. We’ve insulated hospitals, glamping pods, London Underground stations, high-rise flats, council homes and historic buildings - we even supplied the material for a ten-storey hot air balloon which set a new world record for circumnavigating the globe. It’s been an incredible journey.”
The not-for-profit Family Business Awards are backed and run by The Wilson Organisation. The firm’s MD Charlotte Perkins, the third generation of the family to lead the business alongside her sister Annabel Prow, says:
“The Awards are the Midlands’ only independent initiative to recognise the work, success, innovations and achievements of family businesses. Family businesses are the backbone of the British economy, with two in every three of UK businesses being family owned. They generate over a quarter of UK GDP and employ around 12.2 million.
“Having launched the awards back in 2010, our aim has always been to shine a light on the region’s talented and successful family businesses and to play our part in creating a community of like-minded and supportive individuals.
“The awards have grown year on year and I think that is testament to the volume and calibre of brilliant firms in our region, and the fact that family businesses embrace celebrating their own success and that of others.
“Each of this year’s entrants demonstrate the exceptional pedigree of the family businesses in the Midlands and the sector’s vital contribution to the region’s economy. We wish SuperFOIL and all this year’s finalists the very best when they meet the judges in the final round.”
The winners of the Awards’ ten categories remain a tightly kept secret until the Awards ceremony and black-tie dinner, which takes place on Thursday 7th November 2019 at Leicester’s King Power Stadium, and will be attended by more than 300 guests, including representatives from SuperFOIL.
The Awards are the only initiative dedicated to celebrating and recognising the success, achievements and innovations of family run and owned businesses across the Midlands.
