Wienerberger AG (Vienna, Austria) has acquired Bayerische Dachziegelwerke Bogen GmbH, a family-owned company with headquarters and production in Straubing (approximately 130km north-east of Munich).
Following the purchase of F. v. Müller Dachziegelwerke in 2005, Wienerberger is taking a further growth step in its clay roof tile business with this acquisition and will also make an important contribution to consolidating the German clay roof tile market. A progressively difficult market environment for mid-sized companies had led the owners to look for a strong partner in order to safeguard the continued existence of this site. “Bogen represents an ideal addition to our plant network with its excellent regional market connections“, commented Johann Windisch, member of the Managing Board of Wienerberger AG, on this transaction. “The purchase of Bogen will allow us to significantly expand our product line and clearly increase our position in the clay roof tile segment.“
In 2005 the company generated revenues of roughly 20 million euro with 157 employees. The parties have agreed not to disclose any information on the purchase price.
Bogen operates two pressed tile plants in Straubing and one plant for accessories. The annual capacity of these facilities totals roughly 37 million pieces per annum. Raw material reserves are located next to the plant and will cover requirements for more than 50 years.
The acquisition of Bogen, added the company, will give Wienerberger a well distributed geographical presence at five locations throughout Germany. In order to further expand its market position in the future, the company intends to continue the implementation of its profitable growth strategy. The investments for 2006 are expected to total at least 250 million euro.
