Gilbane Building Company, a global leader in construction services, is happy to announce that the CSU Maritime Academy Physical Education and Aquatics Center has won the 2015 Best Projects Award from Engineering News-Record in the Sports/Entertainment category for the California region.
The panel of 11 industry judges reviewed and discussed nearly 120 projects located throughout California and Hawaii.
Gilbane Building Company provided CM At-risk services for the new Physical Education and Aquatics Center for the campus located in Vallejo, CA. Working with lead designer WRNS Studio and CSU's Chancellor Office, the team worked collaboratively throughout the design and construction phases of the project to deliver this new campus gateway project on time, under budget, and with no recordable incidents. The project consists of a new NCAA Division II basketball gymnasium with seating, a multi-purpose room, wellness room, physical therapy room, lockers, and an office suite to house the PE Faculty as well as and outdoor Olympic sized pool. The pool is a unique aspect of the building and will facilitate water polo, swim meets, pool recreation swims, and survival training elements to simulate rescue events at sea.
"We were thrilled to be selected as the CM At-risk on this project several years ago and even more thrilled to receive this prestigious award," said Jeffrey Park, Project Executive for Gilbane Building Company. "We truly enjoyed this project and working with our partners at CSU, the Maritime Academy, WRNS, and all of our tremendous trade contractors who made this a project we can all be proud to have been a part of for years to come."
The project will be honored at the ENR Best Projects award ceremony in San Francisco on December 3, 2015.
