Bechtel, a global leader in engineering, procurement, and construction, has been selected by Cricket Valley Energy LLC, an affiliate of Advanced Power, to design and build a new 1,000-megawatt combined-cycle, electric generating facility in Dover, NY.
Cricket Valley Energy Center's state-of-the-art, low-impact design is a highly-efficient, natural gas-fired facility designed to be among the cleanest energy producers in New York. It will generate electricity for nearly one million homes. The facility is expected to create approximately 800 craft jobs and, once complete, up to 30 full-time engineering, operations, management, and administrative positions. Construction is expected to start in mid-2016. "We are very pleased to announce our partnership with Bechtel," said Robert De Meyere, project manager for Cricket Valley Energy LLC. "We are confident that the expertise and experience Bechtel brings to our project will help achieve our goal to make Cricket Valley Energy a trusted resource in the region's energy supply, revitalize a dormant industrial site, and create jobs and tax revenue for the Town of Dover and the region."
Bechtel will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the generating facility, which will use three General Electric natural gas turbines, each with a heat recovery steam generator and steam turbine generator. Bechtel partnered with Cricket Valley Energy LLC to complete the development of the project.
"We join Cricket Valley Energy in its commitment to hire local workers and partner with local businesses wherever possible, in order to deliver a quality project," said Scott Osborne, general manager for power, Bechtel. "We look forward to working with our customer and the community to make this project a success."
Bechtel is also currently working with another Advanced Power affiliate, Carroll County Energy LLC, building a natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power plant in Carroll County, Ohio. Bechtel recently completed three similar plants in Texas ahead of schedule.
Bechtel is a global leader in the design and execution of complex power projects and has been at the forefront of the power industry for more than 60 years. The company has successfully completed combined-cycle projects all over the world, including in the United Kingdom, Egypt, India, Turkey, Mexico, and in the United States. In New York, Bechtel has completed a number of significant power generation projects, including construction of the Athens Generating Plant, a 1,323-megawatt natural gas-fired power generating facility.
