Prudential Financial Chairman and CEO John Strangfeld, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, and many other executives and dignitaries, will celebrate the grand opening of Prudential’s new 20-story, 740,000-square-foot office tower with a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 29 at 10:30 a.m. at 655 Broad Street in downtown Newark.
The new tower is the workplace for nearly 3,000 Prudential employees.
To further support urban renewal in the neighborhood around the tower, Prudential has made more than $150 million in investments in downtown revitalization projects, such as the redevelopment of the historic Hahne & Co. Building, the restoration of Military Park and the conversion of the former National State Bank building into Hotel Indigo. These projects are helping revive the area that once served as Newark’s town commons.
Since its founding 140 years ago, Prudential has invested $391 million throughout the city and has made significant grants to enhance civic infrastructure, accelerate economic development and improve educational outcomes for Newark students.
The tower’s grand opening also marks the launch of “20 Stories of Strength,” a campaign to celebrate the new building and commemorate the 140-year history Prudential shares with Newark, the company’s headquarters city since its founding in 1875. Using the hashtag #20StoriesofStrength, Prudential will share photo and video vignettes on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter highlighting 20 stories of the company’s impact in Newark.
