AstroTurf Product Selected for Installation at NRG Stadium

AstroTurf, the originator and market leader of artificial turf fields, announced on Friday, Sept. 18, that AstroTurf 3D will be used at NRG Stadium now that the Texans have moved away from tray grass for the season.

In 1966, the Houston Astrodome encountered a problem growing grass on their field due to poor sunlight. To solve the problem, synthetic turf was installed and the "AstroTurf" brand was born. Now, fifty years later, AstroTurf once again will be used to provide a playing surface for professional athletes in Houston.

"It is with great pride that we are back in Houston to solve a problem much like the one that led to the origination of the category itself," said Bryan Peeples, President of AstroTurf. "We are the company best suited to come to Houston and turn this field around in five days thanks to our major technological advancements."

Over the last five decades, AstroTurf has devoted itself to leading the synthetic turf industry in technology and innovation, and is considered the expert in convertible fields. AstroTurf will put the finishing touches on turning a 90,000 square foot concrete floor into an infilled football field ready for NFL players Wednesday and Thursday.
