Jacobs Engineering Group to Provide Engineering Services for Major Airside Design Program at Melbourne Airport

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. announced today that it received a contract to provide engineering services for a major airside design program at Melbourne Airport in Australia.

Company officials did not disclose the contract value.

Under the terms of the contract, Jacobs is delivering the earthworks, civil infrastructure, pavement, master grading and drainage design for the schematic and detailed design phases of the Taxiway Zulu and Terminal 2 Aprons Project, which involves the provision of a series of new taxiway, taxi lane and apron infrastructure required to facilitate future Terminal 2 pier expansion and associated changes to aircraft configuration.

The Taxiway Zulu and Terminal 2 Apron scope was previously covered by two separate projects during the recently completed feasibility design phase, for which Jacobs completed the Taxiway Zulu program and another international design consultant the Terminal 2 Apron component. Melbourne Airport has now chosen to bring the two projects together under one contract for feasibility and detailed design and has selected Jacobs to undertake the consolidated scope.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Patrick Hill stated, “The Taxiway Zulu and Terminal 2 Aprons Project is a significant contract that demonstrates how we leverage Jacobs’ global expertise and deep knowledge of the Australian market. Our team is working closely with Melbourne Airport to tailor effective, competitive solutions to help it increase capacity and capabilities in support of its goals.”

Passenger growth at Melbourne Airport is projected to increase from 30 million to 64 million passengers a year over the next 20 years, requiring significant expansion of landside, terminal and airside infrastructure to support expanded schedules and aircraft movement.

Jacobs has worked in more than 80 commercial airports and successfully delivered major aviation programs with combined construction values totaling more than $15 billion in the past 15 years. Jacobs was recognized with a 2014 National Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies for its work at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.

Jacobs is one of the world’s largest and most diverse providers of technical professional and construction services.
