Elzinga & Volkers (E&V), a leading provider of construction management services, today announced The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) West Michigan Chapter honored the firm with the 2015 Diamond Level Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) award; the highest rating available.
E&V is the only Michigan-based Construction Manager to achieve the STEP Diamond award and this is the firm's second consecutive win, which reinforces the company's dedication to a safe environment for a workforce of more than 170 employees. Diligence and unwavering attention to the company's safety standards have also allowed E&V to reach a safety milestone of 3,000 consecutive days without any lost-time injuries.
"We are proud of E&V's reputation for the team's comprehensive and successful safety program. This initiative has been implemented for 70 years and is continually refined to meet the latest industry standards," said Mike Novakoski, president and CEO of Elzinga & Volkers. "Since 1945, we've been committed to E&V's mission of excellence by implementing training across all levels of the company to ensure the safety and health of our team members."
ABC Chapters recognize member contractors who are striving for world-class performance by working safely, ethically, and toward a zero-incident workplace through an annual Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program. Diamond level is the most prestigious STEP award and involves higher requirements than all other levels. ABC includes nearly 21,000 members in 70 chapters throughout the United States. It represents all specialties within the construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms in the industrial and commercial sectors.
"Industry recognition is so important, and we are honored to receive this prestigious award from the West Michigan Chapter," said Novakoski. "Safety practices affect nearly every industry across Michigan and the country. Without establishing an exceptional track record in health and safety, corporate growth would be virtually impossible."
August 2, 2015 marked the 3,000th consecutive work day without any lost-time injuries, a remarkable milestone in the industry. Investing in safety has not only kept E&V's employees healthy, it has also saved the company money and provided a platform for growth. To honor the E&V team for their commitment towards safety and reaching this milestone, the company will host a celebration on August 12 for all employees and their families.
