Eco-friendly Football Club

Middlesbrough football club has announced it will turn its Riverside home into an "eco stadium".

The plans include the construction of a two megawatt wind turbine, which would be located in the stadium's car park.

It is expected that such a device would power the stadium as well as other local businesses, reports the Guardian.

Furthermore, Middlesbrough is looking into raising £1 million to build solar panels at the site to generate electricity.

Terry Tasker, operations manager at the club, said: "Our ultimate aim is that the Riverside will be known as the eco stadium of the premiership."

The club has already been on its way to become more environmentally friendly. It has saved 12 per cent on energy costs over the last two years, according to reports.
