Laser Spine Institute, the leader in minimally invasive spine surgery, broke ground today on the company’s new headquarters and ambulatory surgery center. The new facility will support both national and local expansion efforts, as Laser Spine Institute continues to increase access to minimally invasive spine care options for individuals suffering from debilitating neck and back pain.
Located in Tampa’s Avion Park, the 176,000-square-foot facility is expected to create more than 100 new jobs and extend neck and back treatment options to 25 percent more patients than its existing Tampa center.
“This has been an incredible year of growth for Laser Spine Institute,” said Bill Horne, Chief Executive Officer, Laser Spine Institute. “Although we’ve expanded our services across the country, Tampa will always be our home. We are excited to be celebrating this milestone with our friends, neighbors and partners in the community.”
Local leaders from a variety of municipalities and organizations joined Laser Spine Institute for the groundbreaking, including Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Chairman Sandy Murman of the Hillsborough County Commission, and Rick Homans, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation.
“As Laser Spine Institute grows, so does Tampa’s reputation as a first-class destination for health information, biotech and life sciences companies,” said Buckhorn. “Companies like Laser Spine Institute are driving our local economy to new heights, creating quality jobs in evolving, competitive industries. We look forward to Laser Spine Institute’s continued growth and prosperity here in Tampa.”
Laser Spine Institute actively works toward defining Tampa as a destination for quality, specialized health care services, in order to drive further economic development in the surrounding region.
In addition to the contributions of its patients and employees to the economy through local spending, including restaurants, hospitality services and attractions, Laser Spine Institute has added more than 3,400 jobs through its own workforce and supporting industries. Overall, Laser Spine Institute will have had an economic impact of more than $230 million to the Tampa Bay area in 2014. Those numbers are expected to rise once the new facility opens.
“We are proud that Laser Spine Institute is strengthening its commitment to Tampa Bay by building its new corporate headquarters here in Hillsborough County,” said Homans. “This company is helping to transform the nation’s health care delivery model and expanding its footprint to communities across the United States. We congratulate the Laser Spine Institute team on this new milestone and look forward to continued success in the years ahead.”
Building construction is slated to be completed in the first quarter of 2016. Highwoods Properties, Inc. will oversee construction of the facility, with aspects of interior construction, design and engineering to be completed by Precise Construction; Array Architects; Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio, LLC; King Engineering Associates, Inc.; Walter P Moore; and I.C. Thomasson Associates, Inc.
“We are both flattered and excited to be the developer and owner of Laser Spine Institute’s new corporate headquarters and ambulatory surgery center,” said Ed Fritsch, President and Chief Executive Officer, Highwoods Properties. “We value our relationship with this dynamic organization, and we look forward to serving them for many years to come.”
Neck and back pain represent the single largest reason for patient visits to physician offices and hospitals every year, according to the Burden of Musculoskeletal Diseases. Laser Spine Institute’s expansion will help to accommodate the growing number of patients seeking minimally invasive, outpatient treatment options and more personalized care.
Laser Spine Institute announced earlier this year that it would be opening three new centers in Cleveland, St. Louis and Cincinnati, increasing the number of U.S. residents residing within a 250-mile radius of a Laser Spine Institute center by 50 percent. The new Cleveland center was the first of the facilities to open and welcomed its first patients in November.
Since its inception in 2005, Laser Spine Institute has treated nearly 50,000 patients and has been committed to identifying opportunities to provide the highest level of patient care and service. Laser Spine Institute currently holds a 96 percent patient satisfaction rate and was recently recognized for outstanding patient satisfaction and care by Voyance Health as both a 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 National APEX Quality Award Winner, determined solely by patient feedback.
