United States Steel to Relocate Corporate Headquarters to Pittsburgh's Lower Hill District

Today United States Steel Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Mario Longhi joined Pittsburgh Penguins President and Chief Executive Officer David Morehouse in announcing that the company will relocate its corporate headquarters to the former Civic Arena site in Pittsburgh's lower Hill District.

This announcement assures that the company will help anchor new development in the region while sustaining more than 800 jobs in Pittsburgh at the headquarters location.

The announcement of the new headquarters location in Pittsburgh is another step in the company's Carnegie Way transformation journey. To be completed in 2017, the new 250,000 square foot headquarters will promote collaboration and best practices for U. S. Steel employees in the advanced work environment. Additionally, by housing employees from a number of locations under one roof, the new headquarters location will provide significant cost savings for the company.

"As we continue on our Carnegie Way transformation journey and write the next chapter in the history of U. S. Steel, we are proud that our roots will remain firmly planted in Pittsburgh as we call the lower Hill our new home," said Longhi. "These headquarters are an important investment in our employees and our future, as we foster increased collaboration far beyond the walls of this new building."

Adjacent to CONSOL Energy Center, the building will be owned and operated by a joint venture between Clayco and Pittsburgh Arena Real Estate Redevelopment LP, an affiliate of the Penguins.

"U. S. Steel has been such an integral part of Pittsburgh's heritage, and now this iconic company is leading the way on an exciting and transformational development for the 21st century," said Morehouse. "By placing its new headquarters here, U. S. Steel will be a catalyst for development on a site that we envision as modern urban mix of residential, office and retail space. It is a great day for Pittsburgh and a great day for our region."

As part of U. S. Steel's and the Penguins' commitment to environmental stewardship the building will be constructed with sustainable building practices for U. S. Green Building Council LEED version 3 certification. Sustainability practices will include using U. S. Steel products where appropriate. Steel supports sustainable building practices by reducing the carbon footprint of building materials through its inherent recyclability – as steel is the most recycled material globally, exceeding other metals, paper and glass, combined.
