WS Development Breaks Ground for One Seaport Square Residential and Commercial Space Project

One Seaport Square breaks ground today, and WS Development, one of the country's most prominent real estate development firms, based in Massachusetts, reveals that ShowPlace Icon Theatre at Seaport Square, Equinox, and Kings Bowl will be among its tenants.

The news signals the comprehensive and world-class lifestyle experience that the development will offer when it comes to completion in 2017. One Seaport Square encompasses two towers, 22 and 20 stories respectively, with a total of 250,000 square feet of retail space on their first three floors and 832 luxury apartments on their remaining floors. Seaport Square itself is the largest master planned project in the City of Boston and will offer world-class fashion, entertainment, fitness, dining, residential and commercial space across 23 acres of land. WS Development will develop, lease and manage all 250,000 square feet of the retail space within One Seaport Square, and an additional 1,040,000 square feet of space within upcoming Seaport Square developments. One Seaport Square's residential component will be developed by Berkshire Group, in partnership with Boston Global Investors (BGI). BGI is the Master Developer of Seaport Square. Perfectly suited for developing the lifestyle experience to be found within Seaport Square, WS has a long-standing history of building vibrant, open air destinations with distinct collections of retail, entertainment, and dining options. WS-led properties are also known for integrating the community, creating meaningful cultural experiences, and giving great support to non-profit partners.

"We could not be more thrilled to break ground today and to share that ShowPlace Icon Theatre at Seaport Square, Equinox, and Kings Bowl are the first of the many world-class tenants that will bring our vision to life. We have the privilege of building a city within the city, a neighborhood that represents the future of Boston," says Dick Marks, Partner at WS Development.

With its 250,000 square feet of retail space, One Seaport Square represents the highest concentration of retail space in the Seaport District. Both towers are designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects, also based in Boston, and will qualify for LEED Silver Certification. "With their glass structures, they are a new generation of modern architecture in the City of Boston. The retail floor architecture is lively, diverse modern and glassy so as to engage pedestrians and mirror the energy of food and retail. The residences are also very open and modern; their architecture connects them to the harbor and to the city," said David Manfredi, Founding Principal of Elkus Manfredi Architects.

The project has plans for Courthouse Square, a 17,000 square foot, retail lined open space between the two towers that will serve as a pedestrian link between the buildings, the MBTA Courthouse Station and the Moakley Federal Courthouse.
