The World Sustainable Building Conference was organized October 28-30 in Barcelona. On this occasion, Martine Laprise, PhD student at the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) presented some issues of her doctoral research dedicated to the development of an operational indicator system for the integration of sustainability into the design process of urban wasteland regeneration. This work is part of the SIPRIUS Research Project, supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
The World Sustainable Building Conference is the largest meeting on a global level on sustainable building, where the most important and influential international institutions, experts in this field, will meet for the first time.
The goal of the conference is to encourage the uptake of adequate answers to the challenges, social and environmental, which the building sector faces. The building sector acts locally, solving problems on a local and regional scale, but must face challenges on a global scale that compel considering, in an integrated and complex way, issues related to the needs for housing, the reduction of the ecological footprint and the promotion of sustainable economic models.
As a contribution to these large issues, the SIPRIUS research project proposes an evaluation methodology, based on an operational indicator system for the integration of environmental, socio-cultural and economic criteria into the design process of urban wasteland regeneration. By the integration of criteria and indicators into a new digital monitoring tool, the research aims to provide concrete bases to facilitate the integration of sustainability into the dynamics of urban wasteland regeneration projects.
