Aeon, a leading nonprofit developer, has completed the renovation of The Crest apartment homes in Brooklyn Center. An open house event will celebrate Aeon's preservation of 122 units of affordable housing in the complex that improve living conditions for residents.
The public event will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 3 to 5 p.m. at 6221 Shingle Creek Parkway, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430.
Aeon worked with Minnesota Housing, Hennepin County, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the City of Brooklyn Center to purchase the building in 2012. Together, the organizations raised $2.3 million dollars for renovations, including updated mechanical work, a new front entry, energy efficient boilers, two new elevators, common area aesthetic improvements, air conditioning in every unit and additional sustainability features.
"This renovation is transformational for the residents as well as the building itself," said Gina Ciganik, Vice President of Housing Development at Aeon. "Aeon believes that the use of healthier materials and buildings leads to healthier residents. The use of warm colors makes the building more welcoming, and the suburban location of this home is close to jobs and is perfect for enjoying the nearby stream and beautiful natural areas."
