Nonprofit IWFA Partners with Dominion Virginia Power's Non-Residential Window Film Rebate Program

The International Window Film Association (IWFA), a nonprofit dedicated to expanding awareness of window film's many benefits, is partnering with Dominion Virginia Power's Non-Residential Window Film Rebate Program that offers an average $2,100 toward the installation of window films to help reduce peak energy demand.

As a Dominion partner, the IWFA is providing free solar control training and accreditation, a requirement for licensed contractors who want to apply to be part of the Dominion contractor network. The Non-Residential Window Film program helps to reduce the cost of the installation of window films, which reduce the solar heat entering buildings through windows by prescribed amounts.

"Many older commercial buildings have windows that are structurally fine, but waste energy," said Darrell Smith, executive director of the IWFA. "After installing window film, they may meet today's more efficient energy standards, without the need for new windows. Replacing windows can be cost-prohibitive or even structurally impractical, as the weight of new, thicker windows may go beyond the building's rated load capacity," he added.

The IWFA estimates the cost of installing Window Film may be 91.5% less than installing new windows. Window film may reduce energy consumption by reducing solar heat gain and cut cooling costs by as much as 30 percent, and at the same time allow natural light in without the negative impact of harsh glare and harmful UV exposure.

"The IWFA is a go-to-resource for window film information, training and accreditation programs," said Ralph Joyce, Energy Conservation Program Manager at Dominion.
