CH2M HILL has been awarded a contract to upgrade the Angerstein and Charlton interchange in south east London, delivering multidisciplinary design services for Network Rail in the South East.
The £614,000 contract was formally signed on 9 September 2014 by the CH2M HILL/Tata joint venture. The work, which commenced on 22 September 2014, includes the completion of GRIP 2 and GRIP 3 works - carrying out feasibility studies and option selection. As part of this, CH2M HILL will deliver site surveys and condition reports, investigate the remodelling opportunities for Charlton and Angerstein Junctions, the renewal of signalling facilities and rationalisation of the current telecoms and signalling power supplies.
The Angerstein Wharf area feeds into some of the capital’s major freight lines, running from the Thames Estuary to Charlton and plays a strategic role in the movement of aggregates into and out of London for some of the city’s largest infrastructure projects.
Commenting on the contract, Richard Graham, Rail Networks Development Director at CH2M HILL, said: “This is an important contract win for our rail team and is another example of the close relationship CH2M HILL has with Network Rail, not only in London but on a national level. The Angerstein area is strategically important for both commuters and the rail freight industry and is one of the main arteries into the city for carrying aggregates around London. Our work upgrading this important route will help improve services and future proof the line for years to come.”
