Duo-Gard, an innovator in high-performance translucent daylighting systems and strategies, engineered and produced a colorful polycarbonate material to complete a unique car parking structure at Chesapeake Energy Corporation in Oklahoma City.
Built on a concrete parking structure, which provided its share of challenges, Duo-Gard had to produce a product lightweight enough for the structure while encompassing proper ventilation, including at least 25 percent of the exterior skin open to vent exhaust fumes. The nature of Duo-Gard's polycarbonate allowed for an exact color match in accordance with instructions from the project's architectural firm Elliott + Associates Architects.
"Many other glazing systems providers in this space try to fit a standard solution to a custom scenario," said David M. Miller, president, Duo-Gard. "The goal here was to emulate the look of the curtain wall of nearby existing office buildings including a neighboring child care center. This project showcased our ability to provide a 100 percent custom solution to meet very precise objectives. Our engineering team, along with our supplier, was able to reinvent the materials needed to create a parking structure to complement the corporate surroundings."
Duo-Gard specializes in collaborative, custom designs that are both functional and captivating. The polycarbonate in the car park provides a translucent curtain wall that transmits lighting colors to serve as a lantern at night, reflecting light throughout the area.
"Partnering with Duo-Gard to complete this project was wonderful. The team was committed to our design and worked with us every step of the way to ensure the end result achieved the goals we set forth for this project," commented Rand Elliott, founder and principal of Elliott + Associates Architects in Oklahoma City.
