ASSA ABLOY Group Brands Ceco Door, CURRIES, and Fleming are proud to announce their Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester (FRP) doors with exterior aluminum frames have earned an important sustainability certification.
The FRP door and frame solution is now GREENGUARD Gold certified, meaning that the products have been tested for low chemical emissions and are acceptable for use in environments such as schools and healthcare facilities. Additionally, the GREENGUARD Gold certified products can be used to earn credits for CHPS (The Collaborative for High Performance Schools) and the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED® Green Building Rating Systems.
A durable exterior embossed finish with aluminum alloy perimeter extrusions and foamed energy efficient core equate to a lightweight door that provides extended life to the opening. As a testament to the durability of this opening, the FRP door and frame system has surpassed one million cycles in cycle slam testing (ASTM A250.4).
As with any built environment, thermal performance is of utmost importance, and the FRP door and frame system contributes to these building necessities. A water-based blowing agent is used to inject thermally efficient foam into the door to bond the components together. This creates an opening with superior thermal insulation and enhanced structural integrity. The FRP door was tested for energy efficiency, achieving a U-Factor of 0.26 (ASTM C1363 Sealed in Place) and a U –Factor of 0.35 (ASTM C1363 Operable). Experts believe ASTM C1363 Operable is a more reliable indicator of thermal performance. The U-Factor determines a rate of heat loss and gain, whereby a lower value provides a better rating.
These advancements increase the overall span of life for the FRP door and frame system, making it an excellent choice for new and existing buildings requiring a durable, energy efficient exterior opening.
