The Lone Survivor Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing unique healing opportunities for U.S. Armed Forces members and their families, hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for its first retreat facility in Crystal Beach, TX.
BRINT Construction, a family owned homebuilder, designed two separate two-story buildings – a conference center in the shape of the Navy Cross and a main house modeled after the Pentagon signifying their motto of "God and Country".
"This is the first facility to offer support for the entire family. War affects everyone connected to a soldier and all of those involved need help to heal and move forward," said Terry Jung, U.S. Navy veteran and Lone Survivor Foundation executive director.
Marcus Luttrell, the retired Navy Seal who founded Lone Survivor Foundation, began the ceremony with heartfelt stories highlighting his experiences during the Lone Survivor movie tour, sharing moments with actors Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, and others. Terry Jung shared stories about relatives who fought and died for their country. Guests witnessed the first steps toward building the unique facility while Mr. Luttrell and other Lone Survivor Foundation guest speakers broke ground with golden shovels.
"The purpose of these retreats is to remind veterans of who and what they are. We provide an encouraging and positive environment, modeled after the care I received at the ranch with my family," said Founder Marcus Luttrell. "My healing time doubled and I was able to do things doctors said I might never do again. I want to provide that same feeling of hope to our veterans through these retreats."
As the first of its kind, the 5,089 square foot facility will comfortably sleep 32 people and provide educational, health, recovery and wellness opportunities for the wounded U.S. Armed Forces members and their families. The Lone Survivor Foundation runs only on the generosity of its supporters. Please visit www.lonesurvivorfoundation.org/crystalbeach to make a donation.
