Johns Manville (JM), a leading manufacturer and marketer of premium-quality building and specialty products, today announced that its complete line of Formaldehyde-free™ fiber glass building insulation has received GREENGUARD Gold certification from UL Environment, a business unit of UL (Underwriters Laboratories).
This certification provides assurance that JM fiber glass building insulation products meet some of the world's most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into indoor air. While GREENGUARD Gold certification covers only non-residential environments, JM has also modeled its product emissions for residential environments.
GREENGUARD Gold certification includes criteria for potentially sensitive building occupants, such as children and the elderly, and ensures that products are acceptable for use in critical indoor environments, such as schools and hospitals. GREENGUARD Gold certification is increasingly becoming a key consideration for a growing number of architects, designers and facility managers seeking to incorporate third-party certified products into their buildings.
“JM was the first company to offer a complete line of Formaldehyde-free fiber glass building insulation more than a decade ago, and we recently built on that innovative breakthrough with the introduction of our bio-based binder,” said Fred Stephan, senior vice president and general manager of JM’s Insulation Systems division. “In addition to reinforcing our commitment to promoting healthier and safer indoor air quality, GREENGUARD Gold certification is a testament to our success in transitioning to our bio-based binder, a conversion which has been completed at all JM locations in the U.S. and Canada.”
JM products certified GREENGUARD Gold include:
- Attic Protector® blow-in insulation
- Kraft-faced batts and rolls
- Unfaced batts and rolls
- ClimatePro® blow-in insulation
- ComfortTherm® batts and rolls
- MicroLite® L rolls
- PEBS Unfaced Filler Blanket
GREENGUARD Gold certification requirements comply with the State of California’s Department of Public Health Standard Method Version 1.1 (formerly known as California Section 01350) for testing chemical emissions from building products used in schools and other non-residential environments. JM has also modeled its product emissions to the Standard Method’s “Appendix B New Single-Family Residence Scenario” to enable JM to make similar claims for residential environments. As such, certified products can be used to earn valuable credits in the CHPS Best Practices Manual for K-12 schools, the US Green Building Council's LEED® Green Building Rating Systems, the Green Guide for Healthcare, the NAHB Green Building Guidelines, Green Globes, Regreen and many other building codes, standards and specifications.
