Owens Corning, a leading global producer of glass fiber reinforcements and engineered materials for composite systems, today announced 9703 wet use chopped strands (WUCS) enabling improved line speed and tensile strength when manufacturing wet-process glass veils.
The new WUCS 9703 improves wet web strength enabling Owens Corning customers to increase their manufacturing line speeds while at the same time reducing veil defects, such as wrinkles, in their conversion processes.
In addition, the new WUCS 9703 improves veil tensile strength by up to 8 percent compared to an Owens Corning reference product.
"Our new WUCS 9703 features wet web strength improvement of up to 40% compared to competitive products," said Geoff Wilson, Owens Corning Director of Wet Use Chopped Strands and Glass Mats Platforms. "So, depending on their specific needs, veil manufacturers can choose to use less product, run their manufacturing line faster, or offer improved veil tensile strength in their end product."
WUCS 9703 end-use applications include tile, cushion, and luxury vinyl flooring, and asphalt roofing shingles.
The announcement was made today at JEC Europe, the world's largest annual composites trade show held in Paris, France, where Owens Corning is exhibiting in Hall 7-2 Booth F22.
