Regeneration Contractor of the Year

Higgins Construction PLC has been declared as the regeneration contractor of the year by the judging panel of the Regeneration Awards for 2005, which are promoted by the publisher of magazines Building, Building Design and Property Week.

Managing director Benny King accepted the prestigious award at the 28 November presentation held at the London Hilton Hotel in Park Lane, knowing Higgins was also on the shortlist for awards in categories for both the challenging regeneration project of the year and regeneration partnership of the year. Building magazine's full report in their Regeneration supplement described Higgins as standing out in a competitive field for its three-pronged approach.

By this, it meant the streamlining of the construction process through the establishment of the pre-construction teams led by associate director Steve Leakey; the development of the community development team and the outstanding training partnership formed with national charity CSV to fill skills gaps.

The awards were presented at the glittering ceremony in its second year by impressionist John Culshaw, attracting over 1,000 guests to hear the opening speech by director general of ODPM sustainable communities group, Richard McCarthy.
