Six developers have made the shortlist for the redevelopment of the former CompAir Holman site in Camborne.
News of the progress being made to secure a development partner comes just as demolition work got underway (29 November) in preparation for the redevelopment of the 7 ha site that will transform the Dolcoath area of the town.
The shortlist selection was made by national regeneration agency, English Partnerships and CPR Regeneration, the Urban Regeneration Company for Camborne, Pool and Redruth. English Partnerships purchased the site in 2003 on behalf of CPR Regeneration to facilitate the physical and economic revival of Camborne. The £90m masterplan for the site, which has been approved as planning guidance by Kerrier District Council, will create a high-quality, sustainable neighbourhood including around 380 homes, light industrial space, live work units, offices, and communal open spaces.
English Partnerships and CPR Regeneration, working with property adviser GVA Grimley, have invited the following companies to prepare in-depth submissions:
- Bellway Homes
- Crest Nicholson
- Midas Homes
- Places for People
- Taylor Woodrow Developments
- Wain Homes
Each developer will present proposals to bring forward the former CompAir Holman site by the end of February 2006, with a final selection to be made the following month. The selection criteria will include sustainability, design quality and experience of community consultation.
Steve Jackson, Senior Regeneration Manager at English Partnerships said, “We were encouraged by the number of developers with previous experience of working on brownfield sites who attended our series of open days. The quality and integrity of the submissions we received is a positive endorsement of the potential of this site to contribute to the future prosperity of Camborne. The town has a long history of business innovation, which we intend to uphold through the redevelopment of the former CompAir Holman site.”
Neil Lindsey, Executive Manager of CPR Regeneration said, “This site is one of several that we and our partners are bringing forward in the Camborne, Pool, Redruth area. Our aim is to offer a range of exciting development proposals with planning consent and we look forward to the appointment of an experienced and committed developer to work with us on realising this vision.”
Gordon Isgrove, associate with GVA Grimley who has been leading the selection process, said, “We received a high number of responses from both national, regional and locally based developers who shared our enthusiasm for this much needed investment into Camborne.”
The CPR Regeneration office has moved from its previous location on the site to the Berlewen Building on Trevenson Road in Pool. The demolition works are scheduled to conclude before Christmas and every effort has been made to minimise disruption to local residents.
