Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects has won two awards for Torre Costanera in the Americas regional division of the International Property Awards, a global awards competition for residential and commercial property professionals.
The 300-meter-tall tower, which will be the tallest building in Latin America, received honors in the high-rise architecture and office architecture categories for Chile. The award will be presented on Dec. 6 in London, where the winning companies will learn if they will continue to the next round of the International Property Awards. There, selected winners in the Americas division will compete against regional winners from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the UK.
Located in in Santiago de Chile's Providencia district, the city's financial and cultural hub, Torre Costanera rises along the Mapocho River and the Costanera Norte expressway. The 64-story tower will house the headquarters of Cencosud, one of Latin America's largest retail companies. The building features a state-of-the-art structural system that provides an unprecedented level of protection in the event of an earthquake. Designed for a LEED Gold rating, Torre Costanera includes a high-performance curtain wall and high-efficiency mechanical systems. In a first for Latin America, the building will have computer-controlled double-decker elevators, the most efficient way of circulating people through a tall building. The building is expected to open in 2014.
Since 1995, the International Property Awards has celebrated the highest levels of achievement by companies operating in all sectors of the property and real estate industry. The awards are split into world regions and the highest-scoring winners from each region are entered into the overall International Awards, which recognizes the world's finest properties and real estate professionals.
