In June 2006 lead based pliable electrical conduit will become obsolete under the new RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive which will outlaw the use of lead.
Kopex International is already in a position to advise the market on alternative conduit solutions as a result of its on-going product development and research programmes. Lead based pliable type of conduit is widely used throughout industry and offers many advantages within static applications in terms of its EMC screening capability and its ability to be easily formed.
One alternative would be company's covered AL2 conduit which is already available. It is lightweight, robust and non-magnetic with good EMC screening characteristics when used with an associated connector. It has a flame retardant low acid PVC cover over a double layer of aluminium separated by Kraft paper. It is highly versatile and is temperature rated from -40ºC to + 150ºC.
Other alternatives exist to pliable conduit, and depending on the application Kopex can advise you of the most suitable conduit system, based on the performance you require. Different conduit materials are also subject to on-going research and the company is also developing new manufacturing techniques. Together these will help to provide the high performance levels in both general and demanding applications for which current Kopex pliable conduit systems are renowned.
