Turner/Devcon JV Achieves Key Milestones in Construction of Levi's Stadium

The Turner/Devcon Joint Venture (TDJV), the lead contractor for Levi's® Stadium, said today it is passing the two-thirds completion point on the construction of the stadium and is on track for the start of the 2014 NFL season.

The project team has already achieved a number of construction milestones. TDJV has begun installation of seating and construction on the concession stands. The curtain wall enclosing the stadium's luxury boxes is nearing completion and fit-out of the stadium's interiors is nearly 50% complete. Upcoming milestones include installation of solar panels and the playing field, which are scheduled to begin in September and December, respectively. The stadium is pursuing LEED Gold certification from the U. S. Green Building Council.

As the TDJV team continues to make steady progress towards completion of the stadium, they have awarded the final contract on the construction of the stadium to Metro Contract Group/VCO. Metro Contract Group/VCO, based in Pleasanton, California, will supply several key packages of furniture, fixtures and equipment. This award marks the latest step in TDJV's outreach and recruitment efforts of small and local businesses in construction of the stadium and brings the total contracts awarded to small business enterprises to $46 million.

The project has reached a number of notable employment statistics: 44% of stadium subcontractors are locally based in Santa Clara County; the workforce on the stadium have completed more than 1.7 million hours of work; 53% of the workforce employed by stadium contractors and subcontractors are minorities and/or women, who have earned more than $63 million in wages to date; more than 75% of the workforce resides in the Bay Area of which 35% are from Santa Clara County.

Kavinder Singh, vice president of Turner Construction Company, said "The final contract brings the number of small business contractors on the project to 35 of the approximately 134 contracts awarded on the project. Our partnership with Metro/VCO speaks to our efforts of utilizing local businesses and provides the added benefit of deepening the ranks of the diverse workforce on the project." Singh continued, "We are extremely proud to include the community in the construction of the stadium that when complete will be such a vital community asset for Santa Clara businesses and residents."

Dwight Jackson, President and CEO, Metro Contract Group said, "As a small and minority owned business with Bay Area roots, we are excited to bring our experience in furnishing professional sports facilities to both the Turner/Devcon team and 49er organization. I applaud their efforts in reaching out to local small business enterprises like Metro Contract Group in an effort to successfully complete this very important project."
