Arup and cepezed have been appointed to redevelop a former laboratory into a new building for creative arts school SintLucas.
The assignment is a result of delivering the winning design in a competition by a team led by Arup. United in functional, sustainable aesthetics, the plan intertwines the complete package of architecture, structural design, building services, acoustics and building physics.
The team of Arup and cepezed has the ambition to realise an excellent and inspiring learning environment, where creative youngsters can develop their talents. The school connects to the artistic nature of the area that is known as Strijp-S. This former Philips site, acknowledged industrial heritage, is recently transformed into the home of design businesses.
The new building in Eindhoven combines refurbishment (6,500m2) of the monumental lab building with new built (8,000m2). The building is expected to be finished in 2015.
Educating professionals in the creative industry, SintLucas is a school offering a broad range of creative and technical studies in Eindhoven and Boxtel. The move to the new area enhances the development of SintLucas' creative community in a modern setting, that meets the requirements of present-day education. This step contributes to the goal of SintLucas to keep the top 5 position of schools in the Netherlands.
