NCC Selected to Build Sections of New Suspension Bridge in Norway

NCC has been commissioned to construct sections of the second longest suspension bridge in Norway. NCC’s sections comprise two connecting bridges and two pylons (bridge pillars) made of concrete. The order is worth SEK 739 million and will be registered during the second quarter of 2013.

“This is a project that is ideally suited to NCC, thanks to its excellent specialist expertise in slip casting and concrete designs. We are extremely gratified to have been selected to participate in projects that will contribute to faster travel and thus also to a reduction in CO2emissions,” says District Manager NCC Construction Norway, Tor Helge Nordstrøm.

NCC is to construct the two pylons, which will be 170 meters high, and the two connecting bridges, which will extend between the land and the pylons. The work is to be completed in 2017.

The pylons will be slip cast in concrete by NCC’s own slip casting company, which has specialist competencies in the area.

The bridge, which is scheduled for completion in 2017, is part of the project to make the E6 expressway between Narvik and Bjerkvik safer and more accessible. In addition to considerable time savings, the section of road between the two cities will be shortened by 18 kilometers.

The bridge will be a dual carriageway, with a pedestrian and bicycle path.

Work is scheduled to commence in August and the construction contract will be registered among orders in the NCC Construction Norway business area.
