NCC is to start construction of a shopping mall and a public transport hub in Matinkylä, Espoo, in the Greater Helsinki area. The shopping mall project will be carried out in a 50/50 joint venture between NCC and Citycon. The total order value is SEK 1 017 million and the orders will be registered in the second quarter of 2013.
The joint venture between NCC Property Development and Citycon, a listed Finnish real estate company, acquires a land site from the City of Espoo and are simultaneously signing a contract for construction of the extension of an existing shopping center as well as parking facilities.
Länsimetro, the company that operates metro traffic in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, has simultaneously commissioned NCC to construct a new public transport hub consisting of a metro station and a bus terminal, which will be integrated into the shopping center.
“The Matinkylä Metro Center is a fascinating project. Together with the existing shopping center Iso-Omena, it will form one of the biggest shopping centers in Finland. The project is good proof of how well performed cooperation between different stakeholders leads to a sustainable city development,” says Carola Lavén, Business Area Manager, NCC Property Development.
Matinkylä Metro Center project will comprise of approximately 25,000 square meters of leasable retail space , approximately about 600 parking spaces for visitors, a bus terminal and metro station, and will constitute an integrated part of the existing Iso-Omena shopping center.
The shopping center will be completed in summer 2016. The new metro station and the bus terminal will be ready in 2015 and constitute the main transport hub in the western part of the capital area.
The development of this area is possible thanks to close cooperation between Citycon, the City of Espoo, Länsimetro and NCC.
The construction orders will be recognized in the NCC Construction Finland business area.
