YIT Austria GmbH has been awarded the contract by Raiffeisen Informatik GmbH for the heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, plumbing, fire extinguishing systems and instrumentation for the construction of new SPACE data centre in Vienna. The construction period is estimated to run from April 2013 to January 2014. The contract value is approximately EUR 8.5 million.
The SPACE data centre will offer its services to both the Raiffeisen Banking Group as well as to external customers. The refrigeration systems for the six server rooms form the centerpiece of the project. Five chillers will be commissioned, with a total output of 6,500 kW. To increase the energy efficiency of the entire cooling system, these can also be operated in free-cooling mode. In order to make the most of the free cooling function, cabinets are to be operated with a relatively high chilled water temperature (17°C).
The heat dissipation in the general area shall be realised through the use of radiators; a heating/cooling ceiling is to be provided in the office area. In the offices, a ventilation system with a capacity of 6,500 m³/h will operate; in the server rooms, the ventilation capacity will be 12,000 m³/h; and 15.500 m³/h in the general areas.
The roof will be drained using a negative pressure drainage system. Well water will be provided for the humidifying system of the server heat exchangers, for which an osmosis system is to be installed. YIT will also supply the complete instrumentation system, which meets specific data centre standards.
The trial operation of the data centre begins in November. The endurance test of the entire system is planned for December.
