Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), has been awarded a contract by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), District 12, to design the replacement of the 12-span Derry Borough Bridge in Westmoreland County, Pa. The agreement is for five years and has a total value over the term of $2.2 million.
Specifically, Baker will provide preliminary and final design for the project which includes the replacement of the structure over the Norfolk Southern railroad. It also includes reconstructing the approach roadway, pedestrian facilities, lighting, and updating the guide rail, pavement markings, traffic signal and signing. West Third Street will be reconstructed to create a T-intersection with Route 217, and East Third Street will be terminated with a cul-de-sac. Traffic will be maintained over the existing bridge during construction to provide access to local businesses.
“We are pleased to have been selected for this major bridge project,” said Vincent Borrelli, P.E., Baker’s project manager. “We have a strong past performance of delivering projects in District 12.”
