Green Ballast Inc., announced today that The Broadway Square Building, a twelve story office building in downtown Kansas City, Missouri has installed Green Ballast's patented daylight harvesting fluorescent light ballasts.
Burns & McDonnell, a leading construction, engineering and consulting firm in Kansas City, served as general contractor for the building's upgrade, which included the adoption of GBLL's ballasts as a direct replacement for the existing "standard ballast." The new ballasts adjust power consumption for each lighting fixture, while measuring and harvesting available daylight to calculate and provide only the amount of needed electricity for proper lighting. It is a "plug and play" solution and has controls within each ballast, providing simple and efficient installation and ongoing maintenance.
"We handled the initial installation of the daylight harvesting technology for Burns & McDonnell, and after completing the second floor, everyone was so impressed that they wanted us to incorporate the new ballasts into our engineered drawings throughout the rest of the building," said Steve Winegar, of Garwin Electric. "All of the ballasts have worked perfectly, and there is no commissioning or programming going forward, a big consideration once they're installed. The ballasts maintain a consistent lighting environment, while saving energy without added maintenance."
"Burns & McDonnell's mission is to make their clients successful, and the adoption of our green solution is a significant step in that direction," said J. Kevin Adams, chief executive officer of Green Ballast. "Owners, operators and tenants of office buildings need to significantly lower major operating costs. Lighting consumption costs in the Broadway Square building will be reduced by over 50%, a savings which will be repeated annually for years to come."
