Hotel in Downtown Chattanooga Awarded Silver Level LEED Certification

A business' commitment to the environment goes beyond recycling and low-flow showerheads. While this Chattanooga hotel participates in a towel/linen reuse program, recycling program and the Global Soap Project, the feather in its eco-friendly cap came on October 30, 2012, when it was awarded Silver Level LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

SpringHill Suites Chattanooga Downtown/Cameron Harbor, owned by 3H Group Hotels, is the first and only Chattanooga green lodging to hold awarded Silver Level LEED(R) (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

SpringHill Suites Chattanooga Downtown/Cameron Harbor, owned by 3H Group Hotels, is the first and only Chattanooga green lodging to hold this certification, and while the recognition is only recent, the goal was set at the start of development in 2010. "LEED® certification is an internationally recognized achievement that takes a team effort from beginning to end," Jason Rothenberg, project director for 3H Group Hotels, says.

This hotel in downtown Chattanooga was constructed with the five main LEED® pillars in mind:

Sustainable sites credits, which encourage strategies that minimize the impact on ecosystems and water resources

Water efficiency credits that promote smarter use of water, inside and out, to reduce potable water consumption

Energy and atmosphere credits that promote better building-energy performance through innovative strategies

Materials and resources credits, which encourage using sustainable building materials and reducing waste

Indoor environmental quality credits, which promote better indoor air quality and access to daylight and views

Participation in the LEED® program is voluntary, and projects must earn a minimum of 40 points on a 110-point LEED® rating system scale to become certified.

"Obtaining Silver LEED® certification is a wonderful achievement and reflects our commitment to the environment," Jake Honegger, general manager of SpringHill Suites Chattanooga Downtown/Cameron Harbor, says. "Guests appreciate the sustainable practices that the hotel has implemented."
