Wavin Plastics’ new Type 8 Fin drain is perfectly suited for use in edge-of-pavement drains for the collection and/or disposal of subsurface water in accordance with the requirements of the Highways Agency.
Exceptional rainfall, a road being in a low lying area, changes in 'run off' from adjacent fields and rivers overflowing can lead to a road flooding or being waterlogged. Appropriate drainage systems, such as fin drains, are therefore an important feature of good highway design in order to avoid unnecessary damage to pavement foundations, earthworks and structures, ensuring they remain safe for pedestrians and motorists.
Wavin’s new Type 8 Fin drain acts as a water channel directing any groundwater and/or subsurface water directly into a traditional piped drainage system. The geotextile membrane which is wrapped around the pipe ensures that no soil and clay particles enter the system. This is intended to reduce or eliminate entirely the need for a granular backfill material and thereby reduce both construction time and costs.
Available now, Type 8 Fin drain is supplied in 100m lengths with a 100mm diameter and is wrapped in accordance with the specification detailed in the Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works, Volume 1.
