RAC has chosen Kier as the preferred bidder to deliver total facilities management services at RAC’s three major sites, namely its two histrionic buildings at Bradley Stoke outside Bristol and Bescot close to Walsall, and its offices located at Stretford in Manchester.
The five-year contract, which will commence from October 1, 2012, is valued at more than £3 million and will have an optional extension for two years. The large glass fronted buildings, each accommodating nearly 700 employees, are located close to some of the country’s busiest motorways and are known to millions of motorists. Nevertheless, the buildings’ unusual design and nearness to heavy traffic present a challenge for cleaning and maintenance services.
Moreover, Kier will have to assure that both centers remain functional round the clock. As per RAC, its breakdown division receives a call every nine seconds on an average, thus handling nearly four million calls every year. Workers at RAC’s Walsall and Bristol sites receive most of the calls, thus effective cleaning and maintenance of the buildings are essential for its business.
Kier will also deliver facilities management services at six regional training centers, wherein RAC mechanics undergo training on the most recent models of cars. According to the conditions of the contract, Kier will offer total facilities management services, which include grounds maintenance, building maintenance, security, cleaning and catering. Kier will also launch a dedicated menu app to allow members of staff to surf and place order for meals utilizing their smart phones.
