PPG Industries, a coatings and specialty products firm, has announced that two new products, namely SUNCLEAN self-cleaning glass and SUNGATE 600 glass, will be launched at the GlassBuild America 2012: The Glass, Window & Door Expo, which will be held from 12 to 14 September, 2012. These glasses are targeted at the commercial building market.
SUNGATE 600 glass is a low-emissivity (low-e), multifunctional glass specifically designed to improve buildings’ insulating performance in different applications and climates. SUNCLEAN self-cleaning glass can be used in commercial applications like canopies, glass shading devices, skylights, walkway covers, and other glazings that are difficult to access or sloped. Ten years ago, the company had released this self-cleaning glass for use in the residential construction market.
An insulating glass (IG) unit fabrication plant called the PPG Residential Service Center located in Carlisle, Pa. will be highlighted by the company at the event. This facility can assist manufacturers of residential windows to deal with overflow work or subcontract the double- or triple-pane IG unit fabrication. This facility is the first to be equipped with automated tri-lite assembly system (ATLAS) from GED Integrated Solutions.
The ATLAS can create three R-5, triple-pane IG units per minute, which is 6x faster than usual IG unit manufacturing techniques. The U.S. Department of Energy has sponsored this ATLAS project.
The company will also showcase prominent architectural glass products like CLARVISTA shower door glass, STARPHIRE ultra-clear glass, SOLARBAN 70XL, and Solarban 60, Solarban R100 and Solarban z50 low-e, solar control glasses at the show.
